Starting a Blog? Here's Some Essential Tips... [Part 1]

Blogging is a great way for Internet newcomers to get started with a simple project that can also be quite profitable. Once you have a blog up and running, you can apply to put Google Adsense ads in your blog to start generating income. Whether you choose Blogger, Wordpress or another blogging package to run your blog, there are some essentials for getting your blog going. Here are a few tips.

1. Customize Your Template: When you start your blog you'll be given a choice of which standard template to use. But don't stop there, customize the look and feel of your blog by changing colors, fonts and uploading pictures. This can help your blog stand out from the crowd.

2. Choose A Topic: By targeting your blog to a specific theme or subject, you'll find it easier to build an audience that will keep coming back for more.

3. Submit Blog Stories: You can submit your blog articles to social bookmarking and news sites like Digg.com, Shoutwire.com, Netscape.com and Reddit.com. This can drive a huge amount of traffic to your blog, but make sure your blog entry is timely, topical, interesting and well written.

4. Ping Your Blog: After you've posted a new story on your blog, be sure to use a ping service to spread the word. Pinging your blog lets other websites know that you've updated your blog and will help drive visitors to your story. Check out pinger.blogflux.com and www.pingomatic.com.

5. If you're looking to start a profitable blog, then you need to choose a profitable and popular topic for your blog to focus on. Google Has The Final Answer...

Google is shutting down it's human powered search solution, Google Answers, later this week. After 4 years of providing human answered responses to search queries, Google decided it was time to pull the plug. Google Answers, which required users to bid and pay for their answers, found that traffic and usage had fallen to an all time low with bids for answers now at $1.27 - down from $1.93 a year ago. The service had a staff of 800 part time researchers who provided answers through the website.

Undoubtedly a smart move on Goggles part, as the demand for this service just didn't pan out, and that's unlikely to change in the future as more people become Internet savvy.

Google UK Beta Testing New Intergration of Blog Posts into Search Results

Some reports are floating around that Google UK is testing a new intergration of Google Blog Search into their main Google search results. A seperate search results box showing matching blog posts has been seen to appear at the bottom of the regular search results page on Google. This is another sign that Google is continuing to set the pace in search engine technology.

This will be great news for bloggers if it's fully implemented, as it should help in driving more targeted traffic to the blogsphere. You can see a screen capture showing the Google blog search results box over at BoydCreative.
